7:00 pm. Lexington & 53rd, Manhattan; Firefighters responded to a reported transformer fire. Officers have taped off the intersection as Con Edison workers examine the transformer.
Officials on the scene sectioned off the area next to Murry Hill House while the investigation began.
An officer on the scene to Sleuth that FDNY is taking their time with the area. Indicating that the area is currently very hot and they want to avoid any possible disruption.
The section of road over Lexington ave has been pulled back so that only one lane is blocked. Travel across 35th street is still unavailable.
Officials are waiting for Con Edison to arrive, and then investigation will begin.
Update; After an investigation the area has been deemed safe and regular traffic has resumed.
