All-Hands Fire in Bushwick Apartment

7:45. 948 Hart St, Brooklyn: FDNY responded to an “all-hands” fire. According to a witness on the scene the building was engulfed in black smoke coming from the ground floor. Further stating that no fire was visible from the street. FDNY declared at 8:33 that the fire was under control.  The residents of the building all appear to be unharmed. The building has sustained smoke and fire damage.

A source on the scene told SLEUTH that the fire was likely caused by an accident involving an on-site washer and dryer set. A resident may have sprayed a chemical near the set resulting in an explosion. They were able to escape the flames and clear the building before any harm could be done.

Due to the narrow street, FDNY were only able to sustain one ladder near the house with other emergency vehicles parked on Bushwick Ave and Broadway. For the duration of the incident officials could be seen investigating the floors for potential victims and flammable sources. The street was clouded in smoke for at least 20 minutes.
